Bespoke Church Silverware Commissions
At Ottewill have had the pleasure of being connected to many prestigious churches and cathedrals through the commissions we have designed and manufactured. From a new chalice and paten for Canterbury Cathedral to a Verger’s Wand for St. Brides, Fleet Street.
We were immensely proud when we were asked to design and manufacture a new chalice for one of our local churches in Ashford – Christ Church. Our work includes the reconstruction of silver and gold ecclesiastical artefacts and church-ware. All work is undertaken in our workshop and we are congratulated on our attention to detail. We provide a broad range of services such as plating a church salver or straightening a damaged chalice, through to restoring a large processional cross.

The Making of the new Westminster Abbey Verge
Ottewill Silversmiths are proud to have manufactured a new verge for Westminster Abbey. The piece was used for the first time on 15th October by the Dean’s Verger, Martin Castledine. The special service, to celebrate the 750th Anniversary of the re-building of the Abbey, was attended by Her Majesty The Queen.
The commission by Westminster Abbey following a tender process overseen by The Goldsmiths’ Company, stipulated that the piece had to be made by an apprentice. Our 5th year apprentice, 21 year old William Sullivan, relished the challenge and it was hand made to an exceptional standard in our Ashford based silver workshops. You can read more about the making of the new Westminster Abbey Verge here.
